how to start online advertising

Every business on the internet can benefit from paid advertising.

And getting started might be simpler than you think.

Although there are a lot of strategies you can employ to get traffic to your offers for you to convert into customers, there are four winning strategies that I use time and time again with a lot of success.

Now, this is the time for a little disclaimer: marketers tend to specialize in a certain strategy they are experts at and recommend that solution to their clients.

Ask ten marketers for their opinions and you will probably get ten different solutions!

I personally specialize in driving paid traffic to landing pages as a way of getting your ideal customer into your sales funnel.

That doesn’t mean other solutions won’t work, what it does mean is that these four strategies I am about to share are what I regularly use with my clients.

I am 100% confident they work!

There are 6 routes to get the top of Kilimanjaro, but everyone takes the same picture at the top.

The great thing is that these four strategies I’m going to share with you are simple to implement, you can begin almost straight away.

So let’s get straight into it and see how you can turn casual browsers into customers at scale with paid advertising.

1) “Keyword Sniper” Search Campaigns

“Keyword Sniper” Search Campaigns are one of the easier ways to get started with paid advertising.

If you’ve spent any time on the internet you understand the value of having your product or service appear in the first few results on Google.

Data from Google and Bing suggests that the top result in a search will get 36-42% of traffic for that keyword.

While you can (and should) work to show up on the top of the page organically through search engine optimization, this takes time.

Like a lot of time.

With keyword sniper campaigns you can skip straight to the font of the line.

Imagine your top 5 keywords you know your audience types in when they are searching for your product.

You can pay for your ads to show up on the front page of Google for those keywords today.

What you want to do is pick the most valuable keywords for your business, and buy the ad space on those search results pages, “snipping” the traffic away from your competitors who are ranking on those pages.

Now the key here is to look for hyper-relevant long tail keywords that have less competition and optimize those campaigns for maximum engagement.

If you run a broad keyword campaign on more general keywords (like Google will tell you to focus on) that might bring in a lot of traffic, but it gets expensive and you’re not always going to be able to convert those clicks into customers.

Here’s an example: if you are a SaaS company offering an accounting solution for freelancers and solopreneurs, you could target a key phrase like: ‘best freelancer invoicing software ’ or ‘best invoicing software for freelance copywriters’

Because this is a hyper-specific phrase long tail keyword, the ad bids will reasonably be lower and it is highly relevant to your target audience, which means the leads generated will be much easier to convert.

I run very profitable search campaigns like this for clients all the time.

It is a great way to start getting traffic into your sales funnel for a relatively low cost.

2) Conversion Focused Facebook Ad Campaigns

While Google is amazing for targeting specific keywords you want your brand to show up for, Facebook is the dominate ad platform for social advertising.

When you advertise with Facebook Ads, it’s an amazing opportunity to reach customers who a problem but might not be going to Google looking for a solution right now.

You can reach them online through Facebook Ads and start, create awareness about your brand and start to build a relationship with them.

The best way to do this is by running direct response focused facebook ad campaigns.

A lot of little companies try to mirror what the big brands like Nike are doing and end up wasting a ton of money.

When you keep your campaigns focused on conversions you start to run more profitable ad campaigns.

3) Content Amplification Campaigns

Many of the companies I begin working with have been around for a while and have an extensive web presence, including a lot of valuable content.

If you’re trying to make an impact, it’s likely you’re creating a lot of content too.

We use content amplification campaigns to push traffic toward great content and getting prospects to engage with it is a great top of the funnel opportunity.

When I have a client with great content available, I always use it as a key part of generating awareness in their social media campaigns.

It is a great way to maximize the investment you made in creating that content and build a relationship with your future customers.

Even if you don’t have existing solid content to build campaigns around, it is worth creating some pillar content to use in your social media campaigns going forward.

By pushing traffic to that content, you will help it to rank organically in Google, while also using it to engage and convert customers.

You can definitely convert traffic without any content at all, but it can give you an edge over the competition if used correctly.

4) Retargeting Campaigns

I have saved one of the simplest and most effective campaign types for last: retargeting campaigns.

When I take on a new client, this is one of the first campaigns I look to set up.

If you have been online for any amount of time, you likely have a whole lot of leads lying around just waiting to be reengaged.

Too many people, including some agencies, are quick to discard unengaged leads.

Poor decision making.

You have to take into consideration the different lengths of time it might take a potential customer to move through the buying cycle to a purchase decision.

Just because they don’t buy first time through one of your funnels, doesn’t mean they never will.

Someone might see you online for months or years before they are finally ready to buy.

And that’s where retargeting comes in.

Retargeting campaigns keep your prospect engaged with your company and ensure that you are top of mind when it is time to buy.

In terms of campaigns you can run, this really the lowest hanging fruit.

You already have the leads and all you need to do is engage them in a valuable and interesting way!

By taking advantage of all the money and effort you already invested, you can run retargeting campaigns that convert at high rates for a fraction of the cost of a campaign that tries to bring in new leads.

All four of these campaign types can deliver you great results.

Ideally you will run all four at once.

Having these campaigns working simultaneously will push some serious traffic through your funnels and give you a lot more leads to convert.

The great news is that this strategy does not have to break the bank.

Just $500-$1000 per month is enough to get started!

This low cost makes this a perfect option for any businesses.
